Natural Raffia – 1kg (approx) hank. Long undyed fibres created from leaves from Madagascar and/or Africa. Creates texture in your art project or gift wrapping. Great with brown wrapping paper.
Note that the Raffia hanks are hand-bundled and judged by eye and length. The weight of individual hanks can vary, and the average of the hanks is around 1kg. Individual hanks can be under or over this average weight. In terms of the length of the individual strands of Raffia, we estimate that it’s around 1100mm (1.1 meters), with strands varying between about a meter up to 1.4m.

Is natural raffia biodegradable and compostable?
Yes. It is a natural palm-leaf fibre with no synthetic coating, so it breaks down in commercial and home compost. This makes it a straightforward swap for plastic ribbon and synthetic shred in packaging.
What do organisations use raffia for?
It is widely used for retail gift wrap, hamper and gift-box finishing, floristry, event styling and classroom art programs. The natural finish pairs well with recycled paper and card for a fully low-impact presentation.
How much raffia is in a hank and how long are the strands?
Each hank weighs around 1kg on average and is hand-bundled, so individual weights vary slightly. Strands measure roughly 1.1m, ranging from about a metre up to 1.4m.
